What is Lamictal? Lamictal contains the active ingredient lamotrigine. It is used to treat epilepsy and bipolar disorder.


What is Lamictal used for?

  • Epilepsy: To help control seizures, especially when other treatments have not worked well.

Who can take Lamictal?

  • Adults: Over 18 years of age.
  • Children: Over 16 years of age for epilepsy associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Not recommended for children under 16 for other types of epilepsy or bipolar disorder.

Before taking Lamictal:

  • Do not take Lamictal if:
    • You are allergic to lamotrigine or any other ingredients in the tablet.
  • Tell your doctor if:
    • You have liver or kidney problems.
    • You have a history of allergic reactions to other antiepileptic drugs.
    • You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

How to take Lamictal:

  • Dosage: Follow your doctor’s instructions. The dose may vary based on your age, condition, and response to treatment.
  • Starting Dose: Your doctor will start you on a low dose and gradually increase it.
