Activelle® - Canada Product Information
Activelle® is a type of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) used to treat symptoms of menopause. It contains two hormones: estradiol (an estrogen) and norethindrone acetate (a progestin).
Activelle® is prescribed to:
- Treat moderate to severe hot flashes and night sweats due to menopause.
- Treat dryness, itching, and burning in and around the vagina due to menopause.
- Only be used by women who still have their uterus, as the progestin component helps prevent overgrowth of the lining of the uterus (endometrial hyperplasia).
Before taking Activelle®, tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions, as Activelle® may not be suitable for you:
- Allergies to any ingredients in Activelle®.
- Liver disease or problems.
- History or presence of breast cancer or estrogen-dependent cancers.
- Unexplained vaginal bleeding.
- History or risk of blood clots, stroke, or heart attack.
- Known or suspected pregnancy.
- Migraine headaches.
- Gallbladder disease.
- History of endometriosis or uterine fibroids.
Potential Risks and Side Effects

- Increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and blood clots.

How to Take Activelle®
- Take one tablet daily at the same time each day.
- Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember within 12 hours. If more than 12 hours have passed, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Timeframe of Improvement and Misc.
- It may take a few weeks to feel the benefits of Activelle®.
- Regular check-ups with your doctor are important to monitor your health and response to the therapy.
- You may experience some spotting or breakthrough bleeding, especially in the first few months.
