Onglyza® is a medication used to help control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It works by enhancing the body's natural ability to regulate blood sugar.


Who Can Use Onglyza®?

Onglyza® is prescribed for adults with type 2 diabetes. It can be used in combination with other diabetes medications such as metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin to help manage blood sugar levels when diet and exercise alone are not enough.


Who Should Not Use Onglyza®?

Do not use Onglyza® if you:

  • Have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Are allergic to saxagliptin or any of its ingredients.
  • Have had severe allergic reactions like anaphylaxis or angioedema.

How to Take Onglyza®?

  • The usual dose is 2.5 mg or 5 mg once daily.
  • Onglyza® can be taken with or without food.
  • Swallow the tablet whole. Do not split or cut it.

  • What to Do if You Miss a Dose?

    If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at the same time.


    Possible Side Effects


    Common side effects include:

    • Upper respiratory tract infection
    • Urinary tract infection
    • Headache

    Serious side effects may include:

    • Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat)
    • Heart failure (shortness of breath, swelling of the legs, or sudden weight gain)

    Warnings and Precautions

    Special Populations
