Provera contains a hormone called medroxyprogesterone acetate, similar to the natural hormone progesterone produced by your ovaries. It comes in tablet form and is available in three strengths: 2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 10 mg.

What is Provera used for?

Provera is used in women with an intact uterus for:

• Hormonal replacement therapy to protect the lining of the uterus when taking estrogen.
• Treating menstrual disorders due to hormonal imbalance in non-pregnant women.
• Additional treatment to relieve symptoms of endometrial (lining of the uterus) and breast cancer.

How does Provera work?

Provera helps to balance the effects of estrogen, reducing the risk of overgrowth of the uterus lining and cancer. It also helps to regulate menstrual periods in non-pregnant women by decreasing the growth of the uterus lining and reducing bleeding.

Important Information

Serious Risks: Taking Provera with estrogen increases the risk of serious conditions such as stroke, heart attack, blood clots, and breast cancer. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time possible and have regular check-ups with your healthcare professional.

Do Not Use If: You have liver problems, certain cancers, unexplained vaginal bleeding, a history of blood clots or stroke, are pregnant or suspect you might be, or are allergic to any of the ingredients.

• A history of breast disease or cancer
• Unusual vaginal bleeding
• Liver disease or jaundice

How to Take Provera
