What is chronic constipation?

Chronic constipation is when you have difficulty with bowel movements for a long time. Symptoms include having fewer than 3 bowel movements a week, straining, feeling like you can’t completely empty your bowels, or having hard stools.

How does Motegrity work?

Motegrity helps your intestines move more regularly, making it easier for you to have bowel movements. It works by stimulating the muscles in your gut.

Who should not take Motegrity?

Do not take Motegrity if you:

  • Are allergic to prucalopride or any other ingredients in the tablet.
  • Have serious kidney problems and require dialysis.
  • Have a blockage in your gut, Crohn’s disease, or ulcerative colitis.

How should I take Motegrity?

  • Adults: The usual dose is 2 mg once daily.
  • Elderly (>65 years): Start with 1 mg once daily. Your doctor may increase it to 2 mg if needed.
  • Children (<18 years): Not recommended.

  • What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose.

What are the possible side effects?

    Common side effects include:

    • Headache
    • Nausea
    • Diarrhea
    • Abdominal pain

Most side effects are mild to moderate and often occur during the first few days of treatment. If you experience severe side effects or if they do not go away, contact your doctor.
