What are Ciprofloxacin-Dexamethasone Ear Drops?

What is Ciprofloxacin-Dexamethasone Ear Drops used for?

• Middle Ear Infections with Drainage through a Tube: For patients 6 months and older who have a tube in their eardrum and are experiencing drainage due to an infection.
• Outer Ear Infections (Swimmer's Ear): For patients 1 year and older with an infection of the outer ear canal.

How to Use Ciprofloxacin-Dexamethasone Ear Drops

1. Wash Your Hands: Before using the drops, wash your hands thoroughly.
2. Warm and Shake the Bottle: Hold the bottle in your hand for 1-2 minutes to warm it, then shake it well.
3. Apply the Drops:
   • Middle Ear Infection with Tubes: Lie on your side with the infected ear facing up. Apply 4 drops into the ear, then gently press the tragus (the small flap in front of the ear canal) 5 times to help the drops reach the middle ear. Stay on your side for at least 1 minute.
   • Outer Ear Infection: Lie on your side with the infected ear facing up. Apply 4 drops into the ear, then gently pull the outer ear lobe upward and backward to help the drops flow down into the ear canal. Stay on your side for at least 1 minute.
4. Repeat for the Other Ear: If both ears are infected, repeat the process for the other ear.
5. Store Properly: Store the bottle at room temperature and keep it in the carton to protect from light. Avoid freezing.

Dosage

• Middle Ear Infection with Tubes: Apply 4 drops twice daily for 7 days.
• Outer Ear Infection: Apply 4 drops twice daily for 7 days.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Middle Ear Infection: Ear discomfort, ear pain, residue in the ear, irritability, abnormal taste.
• Outer Ear Infection: Itching, flaking or scaling in the ear, fungal infection, feeling of fullness in the ear, ear pain, rash.

• If you experience a severe allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, difficulty breathing, hives).
• If your symptoms worsen or suddenly return.
• If you experience pain, swelling, or inflammation of the tendons.

Important Information

• Only use ciprofloxacin-dexamethasone ear drops in your ears.
• Keep the infected ear(s) clean and dry. Avoid swimming unless advised otherwise by your healthcare professional.
• If the infection is not improved after one week, consult your healthcare professional.
