What is IBRANCE?

IBRANCE is a medication that comes in tablet form, designed to treat a specific type of breast cancer known as hormone receptor (HR)-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative breast cancer. It is used in combination with other medications such as an aromatase inhibitor or fulvestrant.


Who can take IBRANCE?

IBRANCE is prescribed for:

  • Postmenopausal women with HR-positive, HER2-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer, in combination with an aromatase inhibitor.
  • Women whose disease has progressed after prior endocrine therapy, in combination with fulvestrant. Pre- or perimenopausal women should also receive a luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonist.

How to take IBRANCE

  • Dosage: The typical starting dose is 125 mg taken once daily for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break. This 28-day cycle is repeated as long as the medication is effective and well-tolerated.
  • With Food: Always take Ibrance with food.
  • Same Time Each Day: Try to take your dose at the same time each day.
  • Missed Dose: If you miss a dose or vomit after taking it, do not take an additional dose that day. Take your next dose at the usual time.

Possible Side Effects


Common side effects include:

  • Neutropenia (low white blood cell count)
  • Infections
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Anemia (low red blood cell count)
  • Hair thinning or loss
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash
  • Decreased appetite

Serious Side Effects:

  • Neutropenia with fever or infection: Contact your doctor immediately if you experience fever.

  • Avoid: Strong CYP3A inhibitors (e.g., clarithromycin, itraconazole) and inducers (e.g., rifampin, carbamazepine).
  • Grapefruit: Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice as they can increase IBRANCE levels in your blood.

Storage

  • Temperature: Store at 68°F to 77°F; brief excursions are allowed between 15°C to 30°C 59°F to 86°F.
  • Disposal: Dispose of any unused medication according to local regulations.

IBRANCE from Canada is supplied in a box containing 3 weekly blister packs of 7 tablets each (21 tablets total). IBRANCE is available in three strengths: 75, 100, and 125 mg tablets.
