What is Imitrex Injection?
Imitrex Injection contains the active ingredient sumatriptan, which is used to treat migraine attacks. It is available as a pre-filled syringe for subcutaneous (under the skin) injection.
What is Imitrex Injection used for?
Imitrex Injection is used to treat acute migraine attacks with or without aura. It is not intended for the prevention of migraines or for other types of headaches.
How does Imitrex Injection work?
Imitrex works by narrowing blood vessels around the brain and reducing substances in the body that can trigger migraine symptoms like headache, nausea, sensitivity to light, and sound.
Who should not use Imitrex Injection?
Do not use Imitrex Injection if you:
- Are allergic to sumatriptan or any other ingredients in the medication.
- Have a history of heart problems, including heart attack or angina.
- Have had a stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA).
- Have uncontrolled high blood pressure.
- Are taking or have recently taken (within 2 weeks) monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
