Advair MDI - Canada Product Information


Advair MDI (Metered-Dose Inhaler) is a prescription medication used to help manage asthma. It contains two active ingredients: fluticasone propionate, an inhaled corticosteroid, and salmeterol xinafoate, a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist. These ingredients work together to reduce inflammation in the lungs and open the airways, making it easier to breathe.

WHO SHOULD USE ADVAIR MDI?
Asthma patients aged 12 and older who need additional help to control their symptoms when an inhaled corticosteroid alone is not enough. Note: Advair MDI should not be the first asthma medication used. It is only prescribed when other medications do not adequately control your symptoms.

HOW TO USE ADVAIR MDI
    1. Preparation: Shake the inhaler well before each use.
    2. Inhalation: Remove the cap and breathe out fully. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth and close your lips around it. Press down on the canister to release a dose while breathing in deeply. Hold your breath for about 10 seconds, then exhale slowly.
    3. Frequency: Use Advair MDI exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use it more often than recommended.
    4. Cleaning: Clean the mouthpiece regularly with a dry cloth.

    POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
    Common side effects include:
    • Throat irritation
    • Hoarseness
    • Cough
    • Headache
    More serious side effects can include:
    • Fungal infections in the mouth or throat (rinse your mouth after use to help prevent this)
    • Increased blood pressure
    • Changes in heart rate
    • Pneumonia (in COPD patients)

    STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
    • Store Advair MDI at room temperature (15°C to 25°C).
    • Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat.
    • Do not puncture or burn the canister, even when empty.
    • Keep out of reach of children.

    SUPPLIED
    ADVAIR MDI from Canada is supplied as an aluminum canister fitted with a metering valve. Each canister is fitted into the supplied purple actuator/adaptor. A dust cap is fitted over the actuator’s mouthpiece when not in use.
