Important b: Ventolin HFA Inhalers from Canada do not come with a dose counter as they do in the United States. Ventolin HFA from Canada does contain the same number of doses (200). Patients may notice the generic name on their Ventolin inhaler package is salbutamol. This is because the generic name for Ventolin in Canada is salbutamol, this is the identical to albuterol in the United States.
Ventolin HFA is a medication used to treat breathing problems such as asthma. It helps to open up the airways in your lungs so you can breathe more easily.
WHEN TO USE VENTOLIN HFA
HOW TO USE VENTOLIN HFA
- Shake the inhaler well before each use.
- Remove the mouthpiece cover.
- Breathe out fully, away from the inhaler.
- Place the mouthpiece in your mouth and close your lips around it.
- Press down on the inhaler to release the medication while breathing in slowly and deeply.
- Hold your breath for about 10 seconds, then breathe out slowly.
- If a second puff is needed, wait about 30 seconds before repeating steps 2-6.
- Replace the mouthpiece cover after use.
DOSAGE
- Adults and Children (12 years and older):
- For relief: 1 to 2 puffs as needed. You can repeat every 4 to 6 hours if necessary.
- For prevention: 1 to 2 puffs every 4 to 6 hours.
- For exercise-induced bronchospasm: 2 puffs 15 minutes before exercise.
- Children (4 to 11 years):
- For relief: 1 puff as needed, can be increased to 2 puffs if required.
- For prevention: 1 puff every 4 to 6 hours.
- For exercise-induced bronchospasm: 1 puff 15 minutes before exercise, can be increased to 2 puffs if required.

STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
SUPPLIED
In Canada Ventolin is supplied as pressurized metered dose inhaler (MDI) consisting of an aluminum canister fitted with a metering valve. Note Canada's version of Ventolin HFA inhaler does not have a dose counter, however contains the same number of doses as a Ventolin HFA from the United States. Each canister is fitted into the supplied blue plastic actuator
ADDITIONAL TIPS
Cleaning: Clean the inhaler at least once a week by removing the metal canister and rinsing the plastic casing under warm water. Let it dry completely before reassembling.
Priming: If using for the first time or if not used for more than 5 days, release four puffs into the air before use.
