What is Apidra?
Apidra (insulin glulisine) is a fast-acting insulin used to help control blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. It works quickly, usually within 15 minutes, and is used before or after meals to manage blood sugar spikes.
Who can use Apidra?
Apidra is suitable for adults and children with diabetes who need insulin to control their blood sugar. It’s often used along with a longer-acting insulin.
How to use Apidra:
- Use Apidra exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
- Inject under the skin of your belly, thigh, buttock, or arm, rotating the site with each dose.
- Apidra can also be used in insulin pumps.
- Inject Apidra within 15 minutes before or 20 minutes after starting a meal.
Important Tips:
- Check the insulin before use; it should be clear and colorless.
- Do not reuse needles or share cartridges, even if the needle is changed.
- Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly.
Possible Side Effects:
- Common side effect: low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Symptoms include dizziness, sweating, or shaking. Treat immediately with sugary food or drink.
- Other possible side effects: redness or swelling at the injection site, allergic reactions.
Storage:
- Keep unopened cartridges in the fridge. Do not freeze.
