Invokana is a medication used to help control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is used alongside diet and exercise. It comes in tablet form and is available in two strengths: 100 mg and 300 mg.


HOW DOES INVOKANA WORK?
Invokana helps lower blood sugar by causing your kidneys to remove sugar from your body through your urine.

WHO CAN TAKE INVOKANA?
Invokana is for adults with type 2 diabetes. Your doctor might prescribe it if:
  • You can't take metformin (another diabetes medication).
  • You need extra help controlling your blood sugar even if you are already taking other diabetes medications like metformin, sulfonylureas, pioglitazone, sitagliptin, or insulin.
  • You have type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease. Invokana can help reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events like heart attack and stroke.
  • You have type 2 diabetes and diabetic kidney disease. Invokana can help reduce the risk of end-stage kidney disease and cardiovascular death.

  • DO NOT TAKE INVOKANA IF YOU:
  • Are allergic to canagliflozin or any of the ingredients in Invokana.
  • Are on dialysis.

  • IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

    Before starting Invokana, tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions, including if you:

  • Have kidney problems.
  • Have or have had low blood pressure.
  • Have high cholesterol levels.
  • Have or have had yeast infections of the penis or vagina.
  • Are on a low-salt diet.
  • Have or have had problems with your pancreas.
  • Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Invokana may harm your unborn baby.
  • Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is unknown if Invokana passes into your breast milk.

  • POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

    Common side effects include:

  • Yeast infections of the penis or vagina.
  • Changes in urination, such as the need to urinate more often.
  • Increased thirst.

  • Serious side effects can include:

  • Dehydration, which may cause dizziness, fainting, lightheadedness, or weakness.
  • Ketoacidosis (increased ketones in your blood or urine), which may cause nausea, vomiting, stomach-area pain, tiredness, or trouble breathing.
  • Kidney problems.
  • Serious urinary tract infections.
  • Lower limb amputations (mostly toes).

  • HOW TO TAKE INVOKANA
  • Take Invokana exactly as your doctor prescribes.
  • Usually taken once daily, before the first meal of the day.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water.

  • STORAGE

    Store Invokana at room temperature.

    Keep out of reach of children.
