Jardiance is a medication that helps control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It can also be used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in people with type 2 diabetes and established heart disease.

HOW DOES JARDIANCE WORK

Jardiance works by helping your kidneys remove excess sugar from your body through your urine. This helps to lower your blood sugar levels.

WHO IS JARDIANCE PRESCRIBED FOR?

• Type 2 Diabetes: Jardiance is used in adults with type 2 diabetes to improve blood sugar control when diet and exercise alone are not enough.
• Heart Failure: Jardiance is used in adults to treat heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (a condition where the heart does not pump blood as well as it should).

DO NOT TAKE JARDIANCE IF YOU:

Are allergic to empagliflozin or any other ingredients in this medication.

Have severe kidney problems, end-stage renal disease, or are on dialysis.

Have type 1 diabetes or a history of diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious condition that can occur if your body starts to run out of insulin).

HOW TO TAKE JARDIANCE

• Take Jardiance once daily, with or without food.
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Do not take two doses on the same day.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Like all medicines, Jardiance may cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

Common side effects include:

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs):Signs include pain or burning when you urinate, cloudy urine, and a strong urge to urinate.

Genital Infections: Signs include itching, redness, or discharge.

Increased Urination: You may urinate more often than usual.

Thirst: You may feel more thirsty than usual.

Serious Side Effects - Get medical help immediately if you experience:

Ketoacidosis: Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, confusion, and unusual fatigue. This is a serious condition that requires urgent treatment.

Dehydration: Symptoms include feeling very thirsty, light-headed, or having dry mouth.

Allergic Reactions: Symptoms include rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and difficulty breathing.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Do not use Jardiance if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Kidney Function: Your doctor will check your kidney function before starting and during treatment with Jardiance.

Elderly Patients: Jardiance should be used with caution in patients aged 65 years and older.

STORAGE

Store Jardiance at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep it out of reach of children.

SUPPLIED

Jardiance from Canada is available in two strengths, 10 mg and 25 mg. Jardiance tablets are packaged in boxes of 3x10 or 9x10 aluminum blister cards.
