Trulicity is a medication used to help manage type 2 diabetes. It works by helping your body maintain proper blood sugar levels. It comes as an injection in a prefilled pen and is used once a week.

HOW DOES TRULICITY WORK?

Trulicity mimics a hormone in your body called GLP-1, which helps regulate blood sugar levels by increasing insulin secretion, slowing down the digestion process, and reducing the amount of sugar released by your liver.

WHO CAN USE TRULICITY?

Trulicity is suitable for adults with type 2 diabetes. It's typically prescribed when diet and exercise alone aren't enough to control blood sugar levels. It can be used alone or in combination with other diabetes medications, including metformin, sulfonylureas, SGLT2 inhibitors, or insulin.

WHO SHOULD NOT USE TRULICITY

People with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions to dulaglutide or any of the ingredients in Trulicity.

Those with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2.

Pregnant or breastfeeding women.

HOW DO I TAKE TRULICITY

Inject Trulicity under the skin (subcutaneously) in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm once a week, at any time of the day, with or without food.

If you miss a dose and there are at least 3 days (72 hours) before your next scheduled dose, take it as soon as possible. If less than 3 days remain, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule.

Do not mix Trulicity with insulin in the same injection.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Common side effects include:

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

Reduced appetite and indigestion.

Injection site reactions such as redness or pain.

Possible increase in heart rate.

Serious but less common side effects:

Severe allergic reactions like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Pancreatitis (severe abdominal pain that doesn't go away).

Changes in kidney function, especially if you experience severe vomiting or diarrhea.

Thyroid tumors, including medullary thyroid cancer.

WHAT SHOULD I TELL MY DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING TRULICITY?

Inform your doctor if you:

Have or have had pancreatitis or kidney problems.

Have a history of diabetic retinopathy.

Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

STORAGE

Keep Trulicity pens in the refrigerator but do not freeze them.

If needed, you can store Trulicity pens at room temperature for up to 14 days.

Keep the pens in their original packaging to protect them from light.

SUPPLIED

Trulicity from Canada is supplied in two strengths: 0.75 and 1.5 mg single use pens. Trulicity is dispensed in a carton of four single use pens (generally a 28 day supply dependant on dosage).

OVERDOSE

If you think you have used too much Trulicity, contact your doctor or local poison control center immediately. Symptoms of overdose might include severe nausea, vomiting, or low blood sugar.
