What is Winlevi and What is it Used For?

Winlevi is a topical cream used to treat acne in people aged 12 years and older. It works by blocking certain hormones (androgens) in the skin that cause excess oil production, which can lead to acne.

How Does Winlevi Work?

Winlevi belongs to a class of medicines called androgen receptor inhibitors. It helps to reduce the activity of sebaceous (oil) glands in the skin, which can reduce acne flare-ups.

Who Can Use Winlevi?

• Winlevi is approved for use in patients 12 years of age and older.
• It has not been tested in people over 65 years or in children under 12 years.

Do Not Use Winlevi If:

• You are allergic to clascoterone or any other ingredients in the cream.
• You have any open wounds, cuts, sunburn, or eczematous skin.

Before Using Winlevi, Tell Your Healthcare Provider If You:

• Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. It is not known if Winlevi will harm your baby.
• Have any other skin conditions, such as eczema or sunburn.
• Are using other topical medications that may irritate your skin.

How to Use Winlevi:

1. Wash the affected area gently with soap and water and pat dry.
2. Apply a thin, even layer of Winlevi over the entire affected area twice daily (morning and evening).
3. Use up to 1 gram per application, which is roughly the length of two fingertips of cream. This amount should cover the size of two adult palms or the face.
4. Avoid getting the cream in your eyes, mouth, or other mucous membranes. If this happens, rinse thoroughly with water.
5. Wash your hands before and after applying Winlevi.

Missed Dose:

If you forget to apply a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. Do not double up on doses to make up for a missed application.

Possible Side Effects:

• Common side effects include redness, itching, dryness, scaling, or burning at the application site.
• Rarely, Winlevi may cause adrenal suppression (where the adrenal glands don’t make enough hormones). Symptoms may include unexplained fatigue, weakness, nausea, or joint pain. Contact your healthcare provider if you notice any unusual symptoms.

Drug Interactions:

Winlevi may interact with other medications, especially corticosteroids. Always tell your healthcare provider about all the medications, supplements, and herbal products you are using.

Storage Instructions:

• Store Winlevi at room temperature 
• Do not freeze.
• Discard any unused cream 180 days after dispensing or 1 month after first opening, whichever is sooner.
• Keep out of reach of children.
