Xeljanz XR is a medication containing the active ingredient tofacitinib. The extended-release (XR) tablet is used to treat adults with rheumatoid arthritis.
WHAT IS XELJANZ USED FOR?
Xeljanz XR is prescribed to adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis who have not responded well to methotrexate alone and to one or more disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs).
HOW DOES XELJANZ XR WORK?
Xeljanz XR works by reducing the activity of the immune system. This helps decrease inflammation and can improve symptoms such as pain, swelling, and damage to joints and other tissues.
HOW SHOULD I TAKE XELJANZ XR?
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
Do not take Xeljanz XR if:
- You are allergic to tofacitinib or any other ingredients in Xeljanz XR.
- You have severe liver problems.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Before taking Xeljanz XR, tell your doctor if you:
- Have any infections.
- Have or have had liver or kidney problems.
- Have a history of cancer.
