COSOPT® - Canada Product Information



COSOPT® is a medication used to lower high pressure inside the eyes. It's especially useful for conditions like ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma.


Why do I need to use COSOPT®?

High pressure in your eyes can damage your vision. COSOPT® helps lower this pressure, protecting your eyesight.


What is in COSOPT®?

COSOPT® contains two active ingredients:

  • Dorzolamide (20 mg/mL): Reduces fluid production inside the eye
  • Timolol (5 mg/mL): Decreases the pressure inside the eye by reducing fluid formation.

  • Do not use COSOPT® if you:

    • Are allergic to any of its ingredients.
    • Have severe breathing problems like asthma.
    • Have serious heart conditions.
    • Have severe kidney problems.
    • Are using similar medications taken by mouth.
    • Are under 18 years old.

    Before using COSOPT®

    Talk to your doctor if you:
    • Have lung or breathing problems.
    • Have heart issues.
    • Have kidney or liver problems.
    • Have thyroid problems.
    • Have diabetes or blood sugar issues.
    • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
    • Plan to have surgery.

    How to use COSOPT®

    1. Wash your hands before using the eye drops.
    2. Tilt your head back and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
    3. Hold the dropper close to your eye without touching it.
    4. Apply one drop into the pocket of your lower eyelid.
    5. Close your eye and press gently on the inner corner of your eye for about 2 minutes.

    If you're using other eye drops, wait at least 10 minutes between applications.


    Missed Dose

    If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double up to make up for a missed dose.


    Possible Side Effects


    Some common side effects include:

  • Burning or stinging in the eye
  • Unusual taste
  • Eye redness or irritation

  • If you experience serious side effects like difficulty breathing, swelling, or severe rash, seek medical attention immediately.

    COSOPT® from Canada is supplied in two formats:

    i) multi-dose 10 mL bottle ii) single use preservative free doses, 60 x 0.2mL package.

    Contact Lenses

    Remove contact lenses before applying COSOPT® and wait 15 minutes before reinserting them.
