FLOVENT HFA is a medication used to help people with asthma manage their symptoms. It can be used by children (12 months and older) and adults who need regular treatment for asthma. Asthma is a condition where your airways become inflamed and narrow, making it hard to breathe. Flovent and generics are often prescribed for veterinary use in cats and dogs.

HOW DOES FLOVENT HFA WORK?
The active ingredient in FLOVENT HFA is fluticasone propionate, which belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids. These medications reduce swelling and irritation in the airways, helping you breathe more easily and preventing asthma attacks.

DO NOT USE FLOVENT HFA IF:
  • You are allergic to fluticasone propionate or any of the ingredients in this medication.
  • You need immediate relief for an asthma attack (you will need a fast acting bronchodilator, example: Ventolin, albutarol, formoterol etc..).
  • You have untreated infections in your lungs caused by fungi, bacteria, or tuberculosis.

DOSAGE & HOW TO USE FLOVENT HFA:

Adults and adolescents (16 years and older): The usual dose is 100 to 500 micrograms twice daily.

Children (4-16 years): The usual dose is 100 micrograms twice daily.

For younger children (12 months to 4 years), the dose is 100 micrograms twice daily using a special spacer device with a face mask.

Regular Use: It's important to use FLOVENT HFA every day, even if you feel fine. This helps keep asthma symptoms under control. It may take a few days for the medication to start working.

Instructions:
  1. Shake the inhaler well for 5 seconds before each use.
  2. Remove the mouthpiece cover and check for loose objects.
  3. Exhale fully and place the mouthpiece in your mouth, then inhale deeply while pressing down on the canister to release the medication.
  4. Hold your breath for about 10 seconds, then exhale slowly.
  5. If you use a spacer, follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Priming

If you are using the inhaler for the first time or haven't used it in a week, you need to prime it. For first use, shake well and release 1-2 puffs into the air away from your face. When priming after one week, only one puff to is required.

Cleaning:
