JANUVIA® is a prescription medicine used to help manage blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It contains the active ingredient sitagliptin.

How does JANUVIA® work?

JANUVIA® helps to increase the levels of certain natural substances in your body that lower blood sugar when it is high. It does this by enhancing the action of incretins, which are hormones that help control blood sugar.

Who should take JANUVIA®?

Adults with type 2 diabetes

Patients who need additional blood sugar control beyond diet and exercise

Patients who cannot use metformin due to contraindications or intolerance

How to take JANUVIA®?

Take one tablet by mouth once daily

You can take it with or without food

Follow your doctor’s instructions on dosage

Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, JANUVIA® can cause side effects. The most common side effects are:

• Nasopharyngitis (cold-like symptoms)
• Headache
• Upper respiratory tract infection

Some serious side effects include:

• Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
• Severe allergic reactions
• Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when used with insulin or sulfonylureas

If you experience severe stomach pain, stop taking JANUVIA® and contact your doctor immediately.

Who should not take JANUVIA®?

Patients allergic to sitagliptin or any of the ingredients in JANUVIA®

Patients with type 1 diabetes

Patients with diabetic ketoacidosis (a complication of diabetes)

Important Information

Inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking to avoid drug interactions.

Regular monitoring of your blood sugar levels is important.

Do not take JANUVIA® if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding without discussing it with your doctor.

Storage Instructions

Store at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture.

Keep out of reach of children.

General Advice

Maintain a balanced diet and exercise regularly.

Keep all your medical appointments and perform regular blood sugar tests as recommended by your doctor.

Take JANUVIA® once daily by mouth, with or without food. Follow your doctor's prescribed dosage. Do not split or crush the tablet. Maintain a balanced diet and regular exercise. Monitor your blood sugar levels as instructed. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, but skip it if it's almost time for your next dose. Never take two doses at once.
