Ozempic works by helping your body to control blood sugar levels. It increases the amount of insulin your body releases when your blood sugar is high and reduces the amount of sugar your liver makes. It also slows down how quickly food leaves your stomach, which helps control blood sugar levels after eating.
WHO SHOULD USE OZEMPIC?
Ozempic is for adults with type 2 diabetes. It is used when diet and exercise alone are not enough to control your blood sugar levels. Your doctor might prescribe Ozempic if you cannot take metformin or if you are already taking other diabetes medications but still need help managing your blood sugar.
WHO SHOULD NOT USE OZEMPIC?
Do not use Ozempic if you have:
- A personal or family history of a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma.
- Multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
- An allergy to semaglutide or any of the ingredients in Ozempic.
- You are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Stop Ozempic at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.
- You are breastfeeding.
