Taltz (Ixekizumab) - Canada Product Information
What is TALTZ and How Can It Help You?
TALTZ is a medication prescribed by your doctor to help treat the following conditions:
- Plaque Psoriasis: A skin condition that causes red, scaly, and sometimes itchy patches.
- Psoriatic Arthritis: A condition where joints become swollen and painful, often linked with psoriasis.
- Ankylosing Spondylitis: A condition causing inflammation in the spine, leading to back pain and stiffness.
- Non-radiographic Axial Spondyloarthritis: A type of spine inflammation that doesn't show up on X-rays but still causes discomfort.
TALTZ works by targeting a specific protein in your immune system, interleukin-17A, which causes inflammation. By blocking this protein, TALTZ helps reduce redness, swelling, and pain.
How to Take TALTZ
TALTZ is an injection given under your skin (subcutaneous injection). You may receive it in a healthcare setting, or after proper training, you can inject it yourself.
Steps for Self-Injection
- Preparation: Take the TALTZ prefilled syringe or autoinjector out of the refrigerator 30 minutes before use to let it reach room temperature. Do not shake the syringe or autoinjector.
- Inspect the Medicine: The liquid should be clear to slightly yellow. Do not use it if the liquid is cloudy, discolored, or has particles.
- Choose the Injection Site: Common areas include the front of the thighs, abdomen (except near your belly button), or the outer upper arm. Avoid injecting into areas with cuts, bruises, or patches of psoriasis.
- Inject: Follow the instructions provided during your training or in the leaflet included with the medicine.
- Dispose Safely: Use a puncture-resistant container to dispose of the used syringe or autoinjector.
