What is Vagifem® 10 used for?

Vagifem® 10 is used to treat symptoms of vaginal dryness, itching, and discomfort due to low levels of estrogen after menopause.

How does Vagifem® 10 work?

Vagifem® 10 contains a small amount of estradiol, a type of estrogen hormone, which helps to relieve dryness and irritation in the vaginal area by restoring the natural balance of estrogen.

What are the ingredients in Vagifem® 10?

Active Ingredient: Estradiol (as estradiol hemihydrate)

Inactive Ingredients: Hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, maize starch, polyethylene glycol 6000

Who should not use Vagifem® 10?

Do not use Vagifem® 10 if you:

• Have or suspect you have breast cancer or other estrogen-dependent cancers
• Have unexplained vaginal bleeding
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have had blood clots or liver problems
• Are allergic to estradiol or any other ingredients in this medication

Before you use Vagifem® 10, tell your healthcare provider if you:

Have a history of breast cancer or other cancers

Have liver problems or jaundice

Have high blood pressure or heart disease

Have diabetes or epilepsy

Have migraines or severe headaches

Have had blood clots

Have a family history of breast cancer

How to use Vagifem® 10

1. Initial Dose: Use one vaginal insert daily for the first 2 weeks.
2. Maintenance Dose: Use one vaginal insert twice a week (with a 3-4 day interval between doses).

Steps to Insert Vagifem® 10

1. Wash your hands.
2. Open the package and remove the applicator.
3. Choose a comfortable position (sitting, standing, or lying down).
4. Hold the applicator and insert it gently into the vagina as far as it comfortably goes.
5. Press the plunger to release the insert.
6. Remove the applicator and dispose of it properly.

What to do if you miss a dose

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not use two doses at the same time.

Possible side effects

Common side effects include:

• Breast tenderness or swelling
• Headache
• Abdominal pain or bloating
• Vaginal bleeding, discharge, or discomfort
• Nausea

Contact your healthcare provider if you experience any serious side effects such as:

• Severe headaches or migraines
• Unusual vaginal bleeding
• Signs of blood clots (leg pain, sudden chest pain, difficulty breathing)
• Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)

Storage

Store at room temperature, away from light and moisture.

Keep out of reach of children.

To use Vagifem® 10, wash your hands, open the package, and remove the applicator. Insert the applicator gently into the vagina as far as comfortable. Press the plunger to release the insert. Remove and discard the applicator. Use one insert daily for the first two weeks, then switch to twice weekly. If you miss a dose, skip it and continue with your regular schedule.
