IMPORTANT NOTICE: In Canada, Wegovy™ is dispensed in a multi-use FlexTouch pen with 4 doses in the pen. This differs from the United States where each box is supplied with 4 single dose pens.
Wegovy is a medication used to help manage weight. It contains the active ingredient semaglutide, which mimics a hormone in your body to help regulate your appetite. Wegovy is meant to be used along with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
WHO CAN USE WEGOVY?
Wegovy is for adults who:
- Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or higher (obesity).
- Have a BMI of 27 or higher (overweight) and have at least one weight-related health condition like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or sleep apnea.
It is also approved for children aged 12 to less than 18 years who:
- Have a BMI at the 95th percentile or higher for their age and sex.
- Weigh more than 60 kg (132 lbs).
- Have not had success with weight loss through diet and exercise alone.
WHO SHOULD NOT USE WEGOVY?
Do not use Wegovy if you:
- Are allergic to semaglutide or any other ingredients in Wegovy.
- Have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
- Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
- Are breastfeeding.
HOW TO USE WEGOVY?
Wegovy is an injection given once a week, at any time of day, with or without food. It comes in a pre-filled pen for easy administration. You should change the injection site each week, choosing from the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Wegovy Dosing Schedule
Wegovy is started at a low dose and gradually increased over time to help your body adjust and to reduce the risk of side effects.
Here is the typical dosing schedule:

9 - 12 | 1 mg once weekly |
13 - 16 | 1.7 mg once weekly |

Important Notes:
- If you miss a dose:
- If your next scheduled dose is at least 2 days (48 hours) away, take the missed dose as soon as you remember.
- If your next scheduled dose is less than 2 days away, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time.
- If you miss more than 2 consecutive doses, contact your healthcare provider. You may need to restart the dose escalation to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
- Administration:
- Inject Wegovy under the skin (subcutaneously) in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.
- Change the injection site with each injection.
- Administer Wegovy on the same day each week, at any time of the day, with or without meals.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Common side effects include:
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Constipation
- Abdominal pain
- Headache
- Fatigue
If you experience severe side effects like persistent vomiting, dehydration, or symptoms of a serious allergic reaction (such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat), seek medical attention immediately.
IMPORTANT WARNINGS
- Wegovy can increase your heart rate. Inform your doctor if you notice a racing heartbeat.
- In rare cases, Wegovy may cause pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). Symptoms include severe stomach pain, sometimes radiating to the back, with or without vomiting. If you suspect pancreatitis, stop using Wegovy and contact your doctor.
- Wegovy may increase the risk of gallbladder problems, such as gallstones. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience severe abdominal pain, fever, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
MONITORING
Your doctor will monitor your progress, including any side effects and your weight loss. Regular follow-ups are essential to ensure Wegovy is working effectively and safely for you.
STORAGE
Before use, store Wegovy in the refrigerator, but do not freeze it. After first use, Wegovy Flextouch can be kept at room temperature (up to 70°F) for up to 56 days. Keep the pen cap on to protect it from light.
SUPPLIED
Wegovy from Canada is supplied in FlexTouch multi-use prefilled pens. Each pen has 4 doses corresponding to the dose strength (0.25 mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg, or 2.4 mg) intended by your prescriber. The box comes with 4 disposable pen needle tips, you may need to purchase additional pen needle tips if you are using the “click” method with higher strength pens.
